Cafés de Colombia Expo 2019 received about 18 thousand visitors

The 2019 edition of Cafés de Colombia Expo, the most important specialty coffee fair in Latin America and the Caribbean, received about 18 thousand visitors between Thursday 17 and Sunday 20 October that was open to the public, in Corferias.


And as the main showcase of the great diversity of specialty coffees that Colombia produces, small coffee farmers were able to show their highly differentiated products in different spaces and stands, such as the “El Mercadillo” square, a new space conditioned by the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros (FNC) and that had a great reception among the attendees.


The number of visitors that received the 12th edition of Cafés de Colombia Expo represented an increase of 6% compared to the almost 17 thousand of the 2018 edition, which with a constant growth has consolidated its popularity in the global industry.


Each year, the fair brings together the entire coffee value chain, from the seed to the cup. In addition to the main representatives of the industry, including producers, coffee institutions, manufacturers and distributors of machinery and supplies, coffee shop chains, baristas, tasters, exporters and marketers of the grain, Cafés de Colombia Expo has been consolidated as a space open to all public around the national drink.


With more than 100 exhibitors in 6.000 square meters, there was also a large academic agenda that allowed the audience to learn in depth relevant aspects, innovations or latest trends in the sector, such as the benefits of coffee in human health and export opportunities for Colombian coffee representing non-traditional markets.


As usual, and one of the most exciting aspects of the fair, the XIV Colombian Barista Championship, the IX Colombian Tasters Championship and the II X2 Coffee Championship took place, events that summon all audiences and confirm the great skill, passion and interest of Colombians for coffee. As one of the main novelties, the first Colombian Roaster Championship was held, a process that plays an indispensable role in the final quality of a cup of coffee.


All these championships were won by young coffee enthusiasts and enthusiasts who confirm the push that the new generations are giving to the sector.


For the coffee growers, was also of great interest the presentation “La insitucionalidad cafeteria. Venga le cuento…”, by Carlos Armando Uribe, FNC Guild Affairs Coordinator; Daniel Chica, current Professor Yarumo, and Juan Valdez, the ambassador to the world of Colombian coffee growers. With a very innovative, playful and participatory format, producers were able to familiarize themselves with the most relevant aspects of coffee institutions.


The fair is organized by the FNC in association with Corferias. Cafés de Colombia Expo promotes coffee culture and highlights the great diversity of coffees that characterize our country, bringing Colombians to know a little more about this representative drink and learn to drink a good quality coffee.


By having academic, commercial and cultural spaces, the fair encourages the constant exchange of knowledge between participants in the sector, the establishment of contacts and the conduct of business. And above all, the assessment of the great richness of flavors and textures of Colombian coffees.
